...In 1987, In MaryVale Arizona community residents became aware of the fact that Maryvale was part of a cancer cluster from unknown causes but from some type of pollution, From 1970 to 1986, newborns to 19-year-olds passed away of Leukemia cancer at a rate 2 twice the era's national average, For decades, toxic chemicals had spread under Maryvale, leaking from an industrial complex at 35th Avenue and Osborn Road, That set off years of cancer passing aways and decline and demographic shifts for the neighborhood which was declared a superfund site in 1987, Maryvale, Arizona once epitomized the American dream, The victims of this capitalism polluting Johnsons are convinced industrial contaminants caused Karen's leukemia, Roy recalls observing factory workers dump solutions onto the ground in nearby industrial areas causing capitalism made pollution sites, The Johnsons now know their house is situated very near drinking-water wells that were shut down two years after Karen passed away because they were contaminated with unhealthful levels of trichloroethylene, or TCE, a suspected human carcinogen that effects health of people, And they know their house is located within a state Superfund site that has yet to be cleaned up, ETC!!!
