How America Sold Out Little League Baseball The capitalism privatization of American youth sports We have commodified the play of millions of children into a $19.2 billion business weakening programs that promise affordable sports for all children baseball is becoming a mostly white country-club sport for upper-class families to consume, MLB settles class action wage theft lawsuit for $185 million It would cost each major league team around $15 million to raise the salaries of all of their minor league players to $60,000 a year. To put that $15 million into perspective, it would be 0.45% of the net worth of John Middleton the owner of the Philadelphia Phillies Around 86% of minor baseball leaguers are currently below the poverty line while the other 14% are hovering right above it Not only are minor league players not paid living wages, many struggle to find proper housing all while the MLB and its owners are exploiting players for profit Congress passed the “Save America’s Pastime Act” which exempts minor league players from federal labor law For the players that have to adhere to strict rules about staying in shape and being healthy this is not enough money to eat healthy meals every day, A corrupt process exploits Dominican baseball prospects, Big Tobacco began heavily investing in tactics to link tobacco with baseball, Major League Baseball and Its Problem With DV, MLB Danny Serafini True Crime Case Jon Taffer from Bar Rescue visits The Bullpen Bar in Sparks Nevada He had lost $14 million through a series of bad investments, ETC!!!
