I just ate at a restaurant that’s worth USD 9 Bn… and is quite an experience…

Haidilao is one of the most popular restaurant chains from China…

It’s a hot pot restaurant… think similar to what Indians think of a barbecue restaurant.

They have soups and broth on your table, and you can keep ordering ingredients such as noodles, veges and meats to cook in the soup and eat…

They’re currently at over 1400 restaurants not just in China, but in Tokyo, London, Dubai, Singapore, Sydney and the US

Their high valuation and customer love is because of a few things they do very differently…

???????? Free manicures, massages and shoe shines while you’re waiting to be seated

???????? Playrooms for kids with an in house nanny

???????? Entertainment right between the tables such as dances, magic shows and a lot more

???????? They have their own boy band

???????? And all of their international restaurants are owned by the same company, not given away as separate franchises

And despite all these costs last year, their profit last year was over USD 600 Mn

Their US counterpart is already listed on the stock exchange and has soared almost 50% since listing in the last year

The moat for the company is that while everyone tries to scale on the back of fast food…

They say that real customer love is built on the back of offline experiences

My favourite was the Tomato Soup, and Spicy Soup with add ons like Tofu Noodles, Potatoes, Corn on the Cob, Mushrooms…

And when they ask you for Little Spicy or Very Spicy… please do not say Very Spicy.

Their Little Spicy is anything but Little. It will burn your bones down.
